MobilityATX is a community-engagement initiative sponsored by both public and private community partners that invites the public to create and shape public policy solutions to Austin's transportation woes.

Via an online platform, district-by-district conversations, and a town hall discussion, MobilityATX will assemble and curate a conversation by mobility interests from across Austin and beyond. MobilityATX invites Austin community leaders, regional employers, stakeholders, and, above all, the general public to join this effort to turn citizen-sourced priorities into effective policy solutions.

The three-month project will integrate mobility's evolving constituencies and conclude with the presentation of citizen-sourced policy recommendations for community and City Council consideration.

In short, MobilityATX is a city-wide, pragmatic conversation to address the mobility challenges all Austinites face.

MobilityATX is brought to you by a number of community partners who are dedicated to fostering a transparent, community-wide conversation about the future of Austin transportation.

MobilityATX is a three-month long initiative that invites all Central Texans. to provide short-term policy solutions and ideas aimed at improving transportation in Austin. The most popular and salient ideas the community produces will be delivered to city and municipal government officials for consideration.

Step one: Community Engagement

The first step is the launch of the MobilityATX community engagement platform. This is a publicly accessible online platform where anyone can post their ideas about how to make Austin Transportation better. To help keep the conversation going, the MobilityATX will recruit a civic leader to a new mobility-related topic once every two weeks for ten weeks (5 topics in total), but the online conversation is not limited to those five topics.

In addition, throughout the month of June, Leadership Austin and Capital Metro will host in-person conversations about MobilityATX through the Conversation Corps program. More information about where and how to attend those conversations can be found at their website. The ideas proposed in-person during the Conversation Corps will be posted to the online MobilityATX platform.

The engagement process will continue over the course of 12 weeks. The public will be free to post any proposed solutions throughout the process. Glasshouse Policy will curate and collect data throughout the process.

Step two: Town Hall Discussion

The second step is a public town hall meeting. Held in Austin, this presentation of MobilityATX findings and discussion among the Austin community will be discussed in-depth along with expert opinions from advocates, academics and city officials. The program will be specifically designed to update and engage citizens who were unable to participate in the online forum.

Step three: Community sourced solutions released

The third and final step will be the preparation and presentation of a report by Glasshouse Policy which will, among other things:

  1. Highlight various constituent opinions by presenting data on the public's input from the MobilityATX forum and town hall.
  2. Propose at least one specific policy proposal for each of the 5 topics introduced by the MobilityATX team.
  3. Foster a united viewpoint derived from all stakeholders on clear next steps for Austin mobility.

Sharing your ideas

  1. Why are they called “ideas”?

    MobilityATX is a sharing platform. We’re all here to share and discuss ideas, both old and new, on how to better Austin mobility. Ideas can be big or small, but ultimately they’ll succeed when others build off of them. That’s the beauty of crowdsourcing - we’re all going to build off of our ideas to improve Austin mobility.

  2. Short vs. long posts.

    It’s always best to keep your posts as short and to the point as possible. People respond more to succinct ideas.

  3. Reference URL :

    The “Reference URL” section of your idea is a place for you to share articles or suggested reading that relates to the topic at hand, and/or provides evidence to support your statement.

  4. Using Hashtags.

    There’s a lot of issues under the transportation and mobility umbrella. To better organize the conversation, use a hashtag - #Bicycles for example - to let folks know what topic your post is about. That way, if you just want to read what folks are thinking about just bicycles, you can search for that hashtag (#Bicycles) and see a list of every post that mentions #Bicycles.

  5. What’s up with the “Other” category?

    We did our best to develop five comprehensive topics of discussion that cover the wide spectrum of transportation, however, you may have very specific ideas that don’t necessarily fall into one of our pre-defined forum categories. Because of this, we created an “Other” category. Our moderators will keep a close eye on the ideas generated within this forum and as popular topics rise to the top, they will be considered for the future of MobilityATX.

My Account

  1. Why do you need my address?

    MobilityATX uses an opensource API called the Open Civic Data Project to map legislative districts, including Austin’s new City Council districts. When you provide your address, we match you to your district so that other users can appreciate both the diverse opinions and commonality between districts. If you’re outside of Austin, your address will tie you to a specific town or city. We will never share your home address with anyone.

  2. Updating your information

    We’ve made it really simple for you to keep your user information up to date. When logged in, click on your name and avatar in the top right corner, navigate to My Account, and click Edit My Profile. In the window that appears you will be able to change all aspects of your account including profile picture.

  3. Keeping up with interactions (comments, replies, etc.)

    We’ve setup a home-base to keep track of your conversations and interactions on the forums. When logged in, click on your name and avatar in the top right corner, navigate to My Account. The My Account page will capture and display all of your interactions, from ideas that you’ve created, to comments that other users have made, and notifications from MobilityATX regarding updates and additions to the site.

The Forums

  1. How the upvoting works?

    MobilityATX is a platform for the public; that means the public gets to decide what a 'good’ idea is. You can do that by upvoting an idea. Each idea has a small arrow next to it. When you click it, you add +1 to that idea’s upvotes total. The more upvotes you have, the higher in the forum you appear. Think about an upvote as a 'like’ on Facebook, or a thumbs up of approval to your digital colleague!

  2. Featured Ideas

    The Featured Ideas section on the homepage of is a selection of Ideas curated and hand picked by our transportation experts. You can expect these Ideas to often come from community leaders, transportation organizations, & users with a certain level of expertise in the industry.

The Dos and Don’ts of MobilityATX

Please do:

  1. Remember that other users are humans too. Treat every user with the respect and dignity they deserve.

  2. We know we're online, but behave the same way you would in real life.

  3. Vote. If you like an idea, upvote it. This helps us gauge our user’s opinions.

  4. Please use correct spelling and grammar. Dat wae u dont luk like dis.

  5. Even if you disagree with an idea, comment on it and explain why. Being constructive and respectful helps build a vibrant, healthy community.

  6. Report/Flag any spam you find.

  7. Filter conversations by “newest” and vote on them - it’s your civic duty!

  8. Ideas and Comments can be edited after being submitted, however, try to read over your content for mistakes before submitting.

Please don't:

  1. Be rude, unproductive or mean. We’ll delete your post, and we’ll happily delete your account if bad behavior continues.

  2. Attack individuals or organizations simply because you don’t like the. Ad hominem attacks are unproductive at best and damaging at worst.

  3. Encourage bad behavior by responding to it. Just flag and "walk away".
